How Technology is Transforming the Workplace for the Better

By Admin

TECHNOLOGY

Throughout history people, nations, and companies have feared and distrusted new technologies. Whether that new technology was the printing press, electric light, the silicon transistor, or even business automation. That said, technological advancement is a constant, and next to impossible to ignore. Those who often ignore, fear, or avoid adapting to technology are often left in the dust.

Today, technology is drastically changing the way we work, but contrary to popular belief, it is changing things for the better. Technology is bringing us closer, making us more efficient, and is steadily improving our work lives. From seamless communication to impressive business automation, technology is benefiting all the rungs of the corporate ladder from the entry-level worker to the CEO.

An Office Powered by Technology

The main purpose of technology is to make us more efficient, and this couldn’t be truer of business technology in the office space. Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP systems have made work easier on the employee and in turn, has made the employee more efficient. In a very clear way, employees can work smarter not harder, using tools that dramatically reduce the chance of time-consuming mistakes. In some office spaces, employees utilise a whole suite of ERP software solutions to communicate with clients and staff and streamline their work removing a lot of user error from the process. Time-consuming tasks like data entry, bookkeeping, quoting, and contact management is all made simple and easy thanks to innovative new business technologies.

How Technology is Improving the Work-Day

Some have feared that automation is bound to replace our workforce, but this isn’t necessarily the case. While certain jobs may disappear like retail workers and warehouse workers, automation is bound to make others easier and drastically improve the lives of those who benefit from this innovation.

In the past, some members of the workforce were bound by pen, paper, and rudimentary machines. Smart technology, like the previously mentioned ERP systems, not only make employees more efficient, but they can make day-to-day much easier. Fixing simple, yet time-consuming mistakes can be draining and, in some cases, can feel like an honest waste of time. New business technologies help workers make the most out of the workday. While this can be a positive thing for the worker, it can be equally beneficial for the business owner.

Technology and Business’ ROI

ROI stands for Return on Investment, and it is an important term for business owners everywhere. Before a business owner takes any calculable risk, their first question often regards the ROI. In almost all instances, smart business technology, and innovative new software, while sometimes high in cost, often result in a high ROI. When workers feel more productive and are more efficient at what they do, they make better use of their time; and for a business owner time means money.

With functional business technology, fewer mistakes are made as well, which can work two-fold on a business’s ROI. When fewer mistakes are made, a business’s customers receive a higher quality product at a swifter rate. This boon in overall quality translates directly to loyal customers and the likely chance of attracting more. These funds don’t always remain in the pockets of business owners either, and more often than not, they trickle down to the worker as well.

Adopting Technology for a Brighter Future

For some, technology is viewed as a threat of change to a system that they are already familiar with. These companies rely on outdated technologies that, while inefficient, remain unchanged. This may continue to work in the immediate future, but there is no guarantee that it will do so over an extended period. Employees are also less likely to be satisfied using systems that are outdated, inefficient, or drain valuable time.
